She has a long and varied art career working as an art teacher, a package and logo designer, and director of incentive marketing at an advertising and marketing firm. Ms. Block has been represented by galleries in Washington DC, FL, OH, and NY since 1980. Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the U.S.
Good Works is Studio Montclair’s Annual exhibit to honor our volunteer artists. These talented and creative members dedicate so much of their time to SMI because they believe in our mission of bringing art to community and creating opportunities for artists of all levels and skills.
As you walk around the gallery, you’ll see that each label names the artist and how they volunteer for the organization. Following is a brief description of how our artist volunteers make this organization run.
Virgina Schaffer Block is not only a founder and first president of SMI, but has also been the Gallery DIrector for Academy Square and then Studio Montclair Gallery since 2010. Under her direction, our exhibition crew, Jack Quinn, Pam Cooper, Jim Price, and Ron Powell install all our exhibits and maintain the gallery walls.
Amy Becker, Matt Roberts, Yvette Lucas, Allan Gorman, Janet Boltax, and Miriam Jacobs work on our marketing, publicity, branding, and graphic design.
Victor Utama and Jennifer Malone (not represented) handle our social media on Facebook and Instagram.
Mary Howe manages our gallery sitters for this gallery and our uptown location – Studio Montclair @ KW. Mark Hunter and Michael Sherman are regular sitters at the galleries.
John Masi spearheaded the graphics for our annual fundraiser, “Affair of the Art” and produced the ad journal.
Marlene Hendrian is responsible for all our receptions.
Erica Engfer Pizza facilitates our Windows at Studio Montclair Gallery Program.
Katie Truk is our Critique Group Coordinator.
Kate Albright photographs our receptions.
Amy Tingle chaired Art Lotto – a wonderful collaborative exhibit we had in September of 2018.
And then there are our hardworking board members:
Dan Epstein and Denis Orloff, our Membership chairs
Catherine Kinkade, ByLaws and Exhibitions – she is an original SMI member, active and dedicated for over 20 years
Gina Murray, our Recording Secretary
Yvette Lucas, former President, currently graphic design
Fernando Mariscal, a new board member who helped us set up the gallery
And finally RitaMarie Cimini, our incredibly hardworking President.
This team along with our many non-artist volunteers keep Studio Montclair afloat and help us maintain the quality and excellence for which we are known. We are grateful to them, and honored to have the opportunity to showcase their work from January 11 – February 23.
