May 20 to August 12, 2011

Reception: Friday, May 20, 6 – 9 pm

Studio Montclair (SMI) is pleased to announce two new exhibits, “Considering Collage” and “Next in Line” on exhibit from May 20 to August 12, 2011, at the SMI Galleries.

Considering Collage at the SMI @ Academy Square Gallery (first floor) features the work of artists who work primarily in the collage medium. Each was selected by curator Pam Cooper to “reflect the range of the possibility of collage.” Featured artists are Emily Barnett, Virginia S. Block, Circe Dunnell, Cecily Firestein, Linda Ippolito, Elizabeth Smith Jacobs, Rachel Leibman, Katy Murphy, Barbara Straussberg, and Paula Stark.

“Next in Line” at the SMI Virginia S. Block Gallery (second floor) features the work of Montclair High School graduating senior AP art students who plan to pursue careers in art fields. The show highlights the impressive skills and diversity of talents of these young people, who are literally “next in line” as emerging artists. Collectively they are students of art teachers Joanne Petrigliano and Stefanie Nagorka. The featured artists are Jordi Artigas, Anna Berlin, Gabi Dennis, Izzy Devine-Carter, Kayla Ephros, Rebecca Firkser, Faythe Hansen, Chelsea Jenkins, Rebecca Klein, Ian Langehough, Emma Mierop, Sean Mullins, Rebecca Yellin, and Julia Rachel Zeff. The show was curated by Gallery Director Virginia Schaffer Block and Assistant Director Karen Nielsen-Fried.

The show will be open to the public Monday Through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm
