The Studio Montclair Windows at 127: An exciting alternative venue for our members to curate small group and solo exhibits

Studio Montclair is accepting proposals for artwork to be installed in the display windows that run along Bloomfield Avenue, adjacent to the Montclarion at Bay Street Office at 127 Bloomfield Avenue. There are a total of four display windows; each will be treated as an independent space. Submitted proposals may treat the space as a site-specific installation, or as a solo or small group exhibit hung in a traditional gallery style or salon style. Both 2D and/or 3D work can be displayed in the windows.

DISPLAY TIME PERIOD
Windows will be available for 5-week periods. Install and Removal dates are set by the administrator. NOTE: Artwork must be removed by the agreed-upon removal date – Studio Montclair will not store artwork under any circumstances.

ADMINISTRATION FEE
SMI will charge an administration fee based on the window size. Payment of the administration fee is due prior to installation.

See “Window Selection” (below) for important sign-up requirements.

The window measurements and fees are as follows (starting with the windows closest to 127 Bloomfield Avenue):

WINDOW SPECIFICATIONS
Each display window has an electrical outlet for motorized installations, LED lighting on a photocell automatically lit from dusk to dawn, and an alarm system. All the glass has been treated with UV film. Please be aware that the windows spaces are NOT climate controlled. Temperatures fluctuate with the weather and can get extremely hot. Due to these conditions, we discourage the use of work under glass and encaustic work. Studio Montclair is not responsible for any damage to artwork caused by extreme hot or cold conditions.

ARTWORK and SIGNAGE SPECIFICATIONS
  • Artwork must fit in the selected window.
  • Sculpture: Artists must supply their own pedestals if necessary.
  • No inflammatory religious, political or sexual content. No full or partial frontal nudity. No explicit nudity. We are not censoring art, but are sensitive to the fact that these are public windows located a block from Montclair’s middle school in an apartment building with many young families as tenants.

We encourage bold installations!
