About the Artists
Arshad Aziz (Threaded Planet): The Corona Factor
WEARABLE ART (TEXTILE/FIBER ART)
This collection is is a result of ideas evolving from the Artist’s Self Isolation period and reflection of all that is happening during the current Corona Virus outbreak. Aziz has used old silk ties that are cut, pieced and patched together to create Collage patterns on the shirts and jackets. The absence of a set pattern represents the Corona Virus as the chaotic pandemonium that has spread globally. The materials used range from upcycled fabrics from jackets, jeans and shirts, unused fabric swatches and a collection of textiles from all continents to express unity and signify that we are all affected and can come together to defeat it, while creating a sustainable piece of wearable art. It allows the observer to exercise their own imagination and think outside the box and utilize their own self isolation period in more than one constructive way.
The concept is always Zero-Waste whereby the ultimate goal is to reduce landfill and stop Climate Change. Techniques used include: Japanese Boro and Shashiko stitches, hand crochet and knitting, collage, patchwork, lace, hand embroidery and weaving.
Threaded Planet is an Art based organization created in 2017 by Arshad Aziz. The mission is to highlight the environmental impact of landfills, a major contributing factor of pollution leading to climate change. Aziz uses art as a weapon to fight this battle known as global warming.
