Block & Karen Nielsen-Fried, presents artwork showing figures in interior spaces and landscapes. curated by gallery directors, Virginia S. Block & Karen Nielsen-Fried, explores the human figure as interpreted by artists in both realistic and abstract forms. Artwork in several mediums is included. Gallery Hours are: Monday – Friday 7am – 7pm.

5/18 – 8/14. “Portraits: Beneath the Surface,” curated by Janet Boltax, encompasses a wide interpretation of what portraiture is, both traditional and contemporary, reflecting the character and inner life of both the sitter and the artist. Gallery Hours are: Monday – Friday 7am – 7pm.

SMI’s Annual Member’s Exhibit, “State of the Art 2012,” an exhibit on view from January 20 to April 11, 2012, featuring the most recent work of SMI members. The exhibit will take place in Studio Montclair’s galleries at Academy Square, 33 Plymouth Street in Montclair.

September 2011: Full Spectrum

September 16 – December 21, 2011. Color is the messenger as well as the message in “Full Spectrum,” which explores the limitless expressive and aesthetic possibilities when artists are inspired by color. Saturated, bold, or delicately nuanced, unconventionally combined, harmonious or discordant: color for the sake of beauty and/or impact.

September 16 – December 21, 2011. Opening Reception: Friday, Sept 16, 6–9pm. “Black & White,” curated by Elizabeth Smith Jacobs and Pam Cooper, explores the vast range of color that exists between these two opposites.
