An exciting opportunity to curate an exhibit for Studio Montclair!

Studio Montclair is pleased to announce a Call for Curators for our gallery space located at 127 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. This 1,000 square foot contemporary gallery is located at street level with four large display windows for additional exhibition space.

Our Call for Curators offers an opportunity for experienced, mid-career, and emerging curators to curate a group exhibition for Studio Montclair.

Guidelines

  • Proposals are evaluated on merit of project and concept.

  • Proposals must be well thought out and focus on projects, and themes that are innovative, challenging, and engaging. Extra consideration will be given to proposals that clearly demonstrate a unique and creative approach to the exhibition, as well as those that present ideas or topics that are not well represented in the commercial sector.

  • Subject and content is at the discretion of the curator with approval by the gallery director.

  • The exhibition must be open to the SMI membership. The curator is encouraged to invite non-member artists to exhibit; however, non-members must become a member upon agreement to exhibit. The ratio of members to new members can not be more than 50%.

  • Curators may not include their own work in the exhibition.

  • SMI Board members and staff are not eligible to be curators.

Studio Montclair offers an honorarium of $150.

Note: There will be no financial support towards any individual artist’s production of artwork, installation cost, or shipping/transportation of artwork.
