Good Works is Studio Montclair’s Annual exhibit to honor our volunteer artists. These talented and creative members dedicate so much of their time to SMI because they believe in our mission of bringing art to community and creating opportunities for artists of all levels and skills.

As you walk around the gallery, you’ll see that each label names the artist and how they volunteer for the organization. Following is a brief description of how our artist volunteers make this organization run.

Virgina Schaffer Block is a founder and first president of SMI, served as Gallery Director at Academy Square and then Studio Montclair Gallery from 2010 to 2018. She currently chairs the Virginia S. Block Community Exhibition Program – a yearly exhibit produced in collaboration with a community partner.
Pam Cooper and Jim Price are part of our installation crew.
Yvette Lucas, Allan Gorman, Janet Boltax, and Mark Pizza work on our marketing, publicity, branding, and graphic design.
Mary Howe and Anne Kraus manage our gallery sitters. Helaine Zwibel, Diana Mrugal, and Michael Sherman have been regular sitters at the galleries.
Peggy Gardner, Emily Gilman Beezley, Marsha Heller, and Ol Mordue helped setup our art sale at the MC Hotel for our annual fundraiser, “Affair of the Art.”
John Masi spearheaded the graphics for our annual fundraiser, “Affair of the Art” and produced the ad journal.
Marlene Hendrian is responsible for all our receptions.
Erica Engfer Pizza facilitates our Windows at Studio Montclair Gallery Program.
Dan Epstein is our Critique Group Coordinator.
Kate Albright photographs our receptions.
And then there are our hardworking board members:

Dan Epstein and Denis Orloff, our Membership chairs
Catherine Kinkade, ByLaws and Exhibitions – she is an original SMI member, active and dedicated for over 20 years
Gina Murray, was our Recording Secretary until June 0f 2019
Yvette Lucas, former President, currently graphic design
Fernando Mariscal, Program chair
Ron Powell, Volunteer chair
RitaMarie Cimini, Development and Fundraising chair.

This team along with our many non-artist volunteers keep Studio Montclair afloat and help us maintain the quality and excellence for which we are known. We are grateful to them, and honored to have the opportunity to showcase their work from January 17 – February 21.

Susanna Baker
SMI Executive Director
