State of the Art 2022 is our annual member exhibit, featuring the work of over 180 artists from throughout the United States in a great variety over mediums including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, mixed media, photography, and installation. It encompasses pieces ranging from eight inches to five feet, and stylistically includes work running the gamut between abstraction and hyperrealism. Equally impressive is SMI’s 14-foot-high soaring new venue, the Leach Gallery, which is three times larger than the original Studio Montclair Gallery.

The Leach Gallery will provide abundant expanded member opportunities, displaying works affiliated with SMI’s Incubator Program, curated exhibits, popup exhibits, and installations.

SMI is grateful for the generosity of both Dave Placek of BDP Holdings and the Montclair Center BID. Dave Placek gifted us this first-floor space in the Leach until he begins further development. We are also indebted to The Montclair Center Bid, which provided a generous grant to renovate the space for use as a state-of-the-art gallery.
