Just Around the Corner

Gumdrop Tree by Yvette Lucas

Submission deadline: October 30, 2010!

It may be difficult to get your head around the fact that summer’s almost over, let alone think about an event that’s happening next June. But, this is definitely something you’ll want to mark on your calendar!

Studio Montclair is pleased to announce their annual juried show for 2011 — “ViewPoints.”  Next year’s big event will take place at Aljira, in the heart of Newark, N.J.’s, arts district.

Recognized as a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Aljira fosters excellence in the visual arts through exhibitions and educational programs that serve as catalysts for inclusiveness and diversity. Aljira is known throughout the region and has received stellar coverage in major arts publications and media.

In keeping with the distinguished setting, juror Rocío Aranda-Alvarado will lend her impeccable eye to the selection process. As Associate Curator, Special Projects at El Museo del Barrio in New York, she is currently co-curating the museum’s upcoming biennial, “The Street Files.”

Ms. Aranda-Alvarado received her Ph.D. in Art History from the CUNY Graduate Center and is on the faculty of the Art Department at the City College of New York. A member of the American Association of Museum Curators. She has been an invited speaker at the Smithsonian Institution and the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Initial Public Offerings program, and her writings have included essays for the Museum of Modern Art; El Museo; and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Our annual juried exhibition is open to all fine artists, in all countries. All media will be accepted, including videos and installations.
