From its inception, Studio Montclair has believed in the value of professional development and has encouraged emerging artists by offering workshops, seminars, panel discussions and exhibitions. We are pleased to further this tradition with the Jean Kawecki Memorial Scholarship, to be given to an individual pursuing or furthering a career in the arts who has been accepted to an accredited arts institution or college. This $1000 scholarship honors Jean Kawecki, a renowned sculptor and founding member of Studio Montclair.
Jean Kawecki was born June 24, 1926 in Liverpool, England. She studied at Liverpool College of Art and began her artistic career as a freelance fashion illustrator in London in 1947. She continued working in this field in New York City from 1951-1966. In 1967, Jean and her husband Wladek moved to Montclair to raise their family, where they resided for 40 years.
In 1970, Jean began to work solely on sculpture and had her first exhibit in 1971. She became an accomplished sculptor, working with found stone and wood combined with copper and epoxy. Her abstracted human and animal forms, sought after by collectors, are imbued with powerful psychological overtones.
Jean’s work is in over 500 private, public, and corporate collections throughout the United States and abroad. For over 20 years her work has been exhibited and sold through Broadfoot and Broadfoot Gallery with locations in Boonton, Manhattan, Paris, London, and Hawaii.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must be a resident of NJ.
Applicants may be any age; but must have graduated from high school.
The applicant must include a narrative essay (up to 300 words) explaining their financial need or hardship relating to their artistic work in order to qualify for this scholarship.
Applicants must show proof of acceptance to an accredited arts institution or college. Your choice of study can encompass any area of art, including fine arts, graphic design, fashion, photography, animation, etc.
Applicants must complete submissions and supporting documentation via the Studio Montclair website using the EntryThingy submission program.
Applicants are required to submit ten to fifteen images of original artwork, (three-dimensional work must include two alternate views of each piece) created in the past four years.
