“ViewPoints,” Studio Montclair’s annual is a prestigious juried exhibition that showcases creative talent and contemporary art trends in all media, while expanding the reach of SMI to introduce artists not only from New Jersey but from across the nation and the world to our community. Over the last 20 years, we’ve had many prominent jurors and artists participate in this exhibition.
Past jurors have included: Beth Venn, the curator of contemporary art at the Newark Museum; Patterson Sims, the past director of the Montclair Art Museum; Alexandra Schwartz, the current Curator for Contemporary Art at MAM, Nan Rosenthal, former curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Phong Bui, the artist, curator and publisher of “The Brooklyn Rail;” Donald Kuspit, internationally known art historian; critic Jerry Saltz, senior critic for the Village Voice and the New Yorker magazine; and Rocío Aranda-Alvarado, the associate curator of special projects at El Museo del Barrio in New York City and past curator at the Jersey City Museum, Helaine Posner, Senior Curator at the Neuberger Museum, author and curator Sue Scott, and curator Jeffrey Wechsler. These arts professionals insure that work chosen for our juried exhibitions are of the highest quality and caliber.
