Studio Montclair (SMI) announces “State of the Art 2018,” an exhibit on view from February 2 to April 27, 2018, featuring the work of its artist members. The exhibit will take place at SMI @ Academy Square Gallery, an alternative space, located on the first and second floors of Academy Square, 33 Plymouth Street in Montclair. All are invited to the opening reception on Friday, February 2, from 7 to 9pm. The galleries are open to the public 7am to 7pm Monday through Friday.
“State of the Art 2018” includes over 100 pieces of art from Studio Montclair artist members in a broad range of visual media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and mixed media.
The jurors for the show are Virginia S. Block and April Tracey.

JURORS
Virginia S. Block is one of the five original co-founders of SMI and founding president from 1997-2003. She has a long and varied art career working as an art teacher, a package and logo designer, and director of incentive marketing at an advertising and marketing firm. Ms. Block has been represented by galleries in Washington DC, FL, PA, OH, NJ, and NY since 1980 and is currently represented by a gallery in Seattle. Her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the U.S.
April Tracey BFA has curated hundreds of fine art exhibitions and has served on several panels judging entries for photo competitions. From 1988 – 1994 she owned and operated Art Noise, a contemporary art gallery that was located in Kingston, Ontario. A serial entrepreneur, she has created arts related businesses in education, manufacturing, wholesale, retail, import, and export industries. Her art can be found in public and private collections in Canada, the US and in Europe. She currently resides and produces her art in the Valley Arts District of Orange NJ.
